February 2018, the Queen ordered a ban on the use of plastic straws and bottles in the royal industry.
In April 2018, The British government announces plastic prohibition order.
In September 2018, Germany's Rewe Group announced to ban the sale of disposable plastic straws at nearly 6000 supermarkets and shopping malls, which is expected to save more than 42 million plastic straws a year.
About 3200 outlets owned by German supermarket chain - “Liddell” will completely stop using disposable plastic straws by the end of 2019.
In North America
In April 2018, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau responded to British plastic prohibition order at the Commonwealth Summit, that plastic straw will be banned in Vancouver next year, and which will be also banned in Victoria city from July 2018. Canada's A &W restaurant (which have more than 1000 chains) will stop using plastic straw by January 2019. The move will reduce 82 million plastic straws a year. (Canada consumes 8.5 billion plastic straws a year.)
Seattle state became the first major U.S. city to ban plastic straws in July 2018. Violating the rules will be fined $250. California governor signed a bill on Sept. 20, 2018, all restaurant is banned from serving customers disposable plastic straws. Florida, New Jersey, California, Washington, D.C., New York City and other state are considering a similar bill. According to statistics, about 500 million plastic straws are discarded every day in the United States.
In South America
Argentina's environmentalists have been pushing for legislation against the use of plastic straws since 2018. The city of Songhai has announced a ban on the use of plastic straws from December 1st this year.
Rio became the first city in Brazil to ban the plastic straws.
From 2019, Peru and Chile also issued plastic prohibition order.
In Asia
In February 2018, the Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency put forward the Action Plan for Marine debris Management, which specifies three stages of control - 2020, 2025 and 2030, in which plastic straws are advanced to this year (2019). Taiwan uses 3 billion plastic straws a year.
In January 2019, Malaysia issued plastic straw prohibition order in three federal jurisdictions - Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. According to statistics, Malaysians uses 31 million plastic straws per day.Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and other Asian countries have also begun to forbidden plastic.
China will issue total plastic prohibition within 2-3 years. Hainan province has already issued plastic prohibition order in Feb 2019.
In Africa
From 2020, plastic straws (and disposable cutlery) will be banned in Monegasque, where several high-end restaurants have refused to offer plastic straws for drinking since September 2018.
